One-UP for BarbersComing

The second app — the one on the other side of the chair

The same visit seen from the barber’s side: the shop calendar, clients, opening hours and price list — and, next to the upcoming appointment, the card the client handed over. For iPhone and iPad, one shop, up to eight barbers. It is being built now and ships after the client app.

  • A card instead of memory. The client picks what to hand over; the handover belongs to one visit and expires with it.
  • The team calendar on an iPhone at the chair and an iPad at the counter — one shop, eight barbers at most.
  • This app stores no photos of clients. The barber gets the description; the pictures stay on the client’s phone.
  • A shop with an account carries the ONE UP mark in the client app, and a public profile on one-up.one.
The barber app: the day’s schedule, the next appointment, and under it the card handed over by the client.

From the app being built. Sample data — the shop, the clients and the note are made up.

What is inside

  • The team calendar

The shop’s day in columns — one per barber, with the grade under the name and a line at the current hour. Hours outside work are greyed out, so you see not only who is free but when they are in the shop at all.

  • Clients and their history

A client joins by scanning their code and confirming on their side — the scan alone is not enough. What stays with each of them is what the barber wrote down: the note, past services, appointments.

  • The client’s card, next to the appointment

Not a separate tab but a section on the upcoming visit: zones, lengths, remarks. The client picks what to hand over and can take it back; the handover expires with the visit.

  • Services and the price list

The base price list belongs to the shop, but every barber can hold their own rate for the same service. Colour takes a range instead of a single number, plus a line on what the quote depends on.

  • The shop sets the grades

The skill ladder is the shop’s own free text, not our list of three rungs. The grade stays with the shop when a barber leaves — certificates and awards travel with them, because they are theirs.

  • Hours as an intersection

A barber sets their hours within the shop’s hours. If the place closes at six, nobody books at seven — the schedule is the intersection, not the sum.

  • A public profile and a QR code

A shop with an account carries the ONE UP mark in the client app and gets a public page on one-up.one. One scanner does two jobs: a barber joining the team, and a client being added.

  • The team and the subscription

One shop, eight barbers at most, the owner included — and a separate path for someone working alone. You pay per active barber, so a two-person shop is not subsidising anything beyond that.

What the first release deliberately leaves out: online booking on the client’s side, photos of clients, several shops under one brand, and importing a database from another app. The material booking will be built from — services, hours, photos of the shop — goes in now.

The same shop on an iPad

The layout follows the size class, not the model: on an iPad the list of sections stands fixed on the left and the shop’s day spreads into columns. What decides the content is something else — the mode. A device set as the shop’s shows the whole place; the phone in a barber’s pocket shows their day.

Reception on an iPad: the day’s numbers, the chairs, the next appointment and the whole schedule for today.
Reception. The client’s card is not here and will not be: a device on the counter sees the appointment and the service, not the client’s request.
The team calendar on an iPad: a column per barber, a line at the current hour, greyed-out hours outside work.
The team calendar — a column per barber, the grade under the name, a red line at the current hour.
